For the Love of All That's Holy! Use Your Brain!

"If everyone is thinking alike, then somebody isn't thinking." - George S. Patton

One of the biggest issues with society these days is that we have totally forgotten, as a society to think for ourselves. We are inclined to take one of two views and go along with them and their ideologies in every capacity rather than use the unique ideas that pop into our brain.

Why is that? Here are a few ideas.

First of all, it’s just more convenient. Speaking your mind when others have different ideas that are either wrong or different than yours is hard. It takes a conversation and a discussion and sometimes those conversations get heated. It’s hard to do that and when we have so many things going on in our lives we just can’t make time for disagreement.

Second of all, we’re so afraid to offend people. Can we stop with that? I’m so not afraid to offend people anymore. I’m just done with little kids who have been pampered their entire lives and told their angels that they cannot accept failure and can’t handle criticism, yet are so damn lazy that they don’t bother doing anything. I try to be respectful but there’s a point where I’m not even thinking that much about that. Yeah, I tell people to “shut up,” (more respectfully than that) when I need to get work done. When they're being lazy bums I remind them that they have a free education and they can always leave and flip burgers for a living. People who call me a “try hard,” are reminded that it’s a heck of a lot better than being a “try not.”

It’s not a call to be rude and ignore people’s feelings. But it is a call to say things as they are, not because you’re a hater, but because you care and you wish to serve and better the good of struggling people. I’m just done with that. It wastes time and it keeps me from being a productive person and I’m absolutely not going to have my ideas and opinions thwarted because I couldn’t tell someone who was wrong that their ideas are wrong or at least that I think that they are wrong and here’s why…

Finally, I don’t think we realize the emphasis we possess. In my Bible study this week I read about a prophet who’s word stood against that of 400 other false prophets. Yet at the end of the day, the one prophet who wasn’t afraid to stand out was the one proven to be right because he spoke and proclaimed the truth. In the future, people thought to listen to him and to pay more attention to the truth. If you’re afraid to share your own opinion you are merely a part of society and you are one more person added to the masses, one more person added to the 400.

It’s not exactly easy to speak your mind. But if your instinct is to watch what other people do you are setting yourself up to be just another person. People will judge you for it and think you’re crazy. They thought Cornelius Vanderbilt was crazy while he sold all of his ships and started investing in railroads. Carnegie was crazy for trying to build a bridge out of steel and pretty soon skyscrapers were being built out of the stuff. Innovation and people who use their mind and their resources can do absolutely extraordinary things.

It matters especially now that we have a whole bunch of idiots with ideas that don’t make a lick of sense. Ladies and gentlemen here is an idea: “A man can’t be a woman. There are two genders. Sorry if that offends you. It’s a fact. If you decide you’re a donkey that doesn’t make you a donkey and if you decide you can change your sex you can’t change your sex. Simple biology.” If you want to go along with these crazy ideas that’s fine. If people who are lazy and don’t want to work and want to challenge science can sway you, that’s fine with me. I don’t mean to get political with this, my point is your ideas matter and your common sense matters and if you don’t want to speak those ideas, that’s fine, but you’re another society member content with conformity. I am begging this world to cut that out and use their influence. People shouldn’t all be thinking the same thing. It’s not how we’re designed. We are built unique and we should be serving people with our ideas. We must learn to disagree politely, but our disagreements and conversations are actually important to building up this country and this world. Think guys and speak your thoughts. If you don’t speak them you will quickly find yourself conforming. That’s just how it is.
